THRASH METAL MEETS STREETWEAR: THE SLAYER X SUPREME COLLAB DROPS THIS THURSDAY
If there’s one thing you should know about Supreme’s collabs, it’s that you’ve gotta expect the unexpected. James Jebbia’s omnipresent brand has collabbed with classic brands like Everlast and Faribault Woolen Mills, heavy-hitters like Nike and Oakley, and musicians like Raekwon and Neil Young. Nothing is off limits, and almost every move is a surprise.
So when it was announced that Supreme would be linking up with thrash-metal gods Slayer for a capsule collection consisting of t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, and more … the Internet just about lost their collective minds. Rock band tee-shirts were all the rage this spring and summer, and even though the fervor for them has seemed to cool down just a touch, Supreme has managed to ramp it all the way up again.
The fact that they even got Iron Maiden to agree to a collaborative effort is extremely impressive in itself, as the band doesn’t care much for hype and fanfare, even when it brought a renewed interest in their merchandise (guitarist Gary Holt played a show in a “Kill The Kardashians” t-shirt last year after Kendall Jenner wore one of their shirts). The collaboration is true to both Slayer and Supreme’s aesthetic and attitude, and that combined with the rock tee hype (that Slayer probably doesn’t like) mentioned above makes for an awesome collaboration.
So throw some old Slayer on your speakers (it’s very much an acquired taste, but if you haven’t heard it before, you should start somewhere), get your credit card ready, and make sure your fingers are fast. The collab will hit the Supreme webstore this Thursday at 10AM CT.
